Name: Adam Neumann
Hometown: Fort Calhoun, Neb.
High school: Fort Calhoun High School
What attracted you to your major and how do you plan to use your degree? I was drawn to the geoscience field right out of high school because of my strong interest in environmental issues. Once I graduate with this degree I will have the skills necessary to help protect our natural resources from man-made risk factors such as unsafe mining practices.
What are you involved in on campus? I stay involved on campus with a lot of different clubs. The Campus Activities Board is probably my favorite because it allows me to stay current with all of the different events that are taking place any given week.
Where do you hang out in your spare time—what is “your spot” on campus? On weeknights I’m usually hanging out in the Student Center Pit with my friends. It’s pretty relaxed down there and I get to listen to good music while honing my ping-pong skills. If geology doesn’t work out for me, I may go pro in table tennis.
What is your favorite class? My favorite class so far has been quantum physics because I’m so good at it.
This last summer I was able to set up an internship with Chadron State through a backcountry guiding organization in Canada. It was an incredible summer where I got paid to do what I love while getting college credit at the same time. It’s hard to beat that kind of opportunity.
Why did you choose CSC and why do you stay? I chose CSC because my high school sweetheart (Molly Seefus) wanted to go to school out here. Even though she ran off with some cowboy, I decided to stay in Chadron because of the amazing scholarships that I received.
