Katherine Bahr's article titled "Collateral Damage: Veterans and Domestic Violence in Mari Sandoz’s The Tom-Walker" has been published in Great Plains Quarterly, Spring 2010 (Vol. 30 No. 2) and won the 2011 Frederick C. Luebke Award for outstanding regional scholarship. The prize, named for the founder of the Quarterly, is given each year for the best article published in the Great Plains Quarterly.
Matthew Evertson has just signed a contract with the University of Alabama Press to publish his book Strenuous Lives: Stephen Crane, Theodore Roosevelt and the American 1890s. The book will be published sometime in late 2011.
George Griffith chaired a session titled "The East and Victorian Fiction" at the Interdisciplinary Victorian Studies Association in Honolulu, Hawaii. This year's conference theme was "Victorians and Oceania."
Robert McEwen's poem Quare Garden at the Dry End of the State has been included in Prairie Schooner's collaborative issue with Cordite Poetry Review titled Work: A Collaboration.
Thomas Deane Tucker’s edited volume of essays on filmmaker Terrence Malick titled Terrence Malick: Film and Philosophy (co-edited with Stuart Kendall) has been published this year by Continuum Press. He and Dr. Evertson presented papers based on their respective chapters from the book at the 2011 International Studies in Romanticism conference in Montreal.
