Master of Arts in Education (MAE)

There are six options within the Master of Arts in Education degree. These options will not certify the student to teach at the elementary or secondary levels in the State of Nebraska.

Educational Administration

The Educational Administration option is offered in an online format.

These programs require that the student have a teaching certificate, or be qualified to have a teaching certificate. The programs are intended to provide the student with advanced knowledge in curriculum, research, assessment, administration, supervision and counseling. It is the responsibility of students from states other than Nebraska to check with their resident state on specific state-required courses needed to obtain their state's administrative endorsement/certificate and to choose their elective courses to meet these state requirements.

  • Elementary/Secondary/PK-12 (Principalship): 36-45 Credits
  • Special Education Supervisor: 42 Credits
  • Curriculum/Assessment Supervisor: 36 Credits

4 Year Course Rotation

Program Requirements

  • Earned baccalaureate degree
  • In lieu of the baccalaureate degree in education, student must have completed an alternative teaching certification program which included student teaching as documented on a college/university transcript

Admissions Requirements

  • Official transcripts from any institution attended after receiving bachelor's degree, if applicable

School Counseling

The School Counseling option is offered in a partially online format. Students can expect to complete two courses on the campus of Chadron State College or its satellite office in North Platte, Nebraska.

This degree prepares students for careers as school counselors in public and private elementary, middle school and secondary settings.

MAE Quick Facts

  • Classes offered in 16-week semester formats
  • Nine hours per semester is considered full-time for the MAE program
  • No GMAT or GRE required for admission to the program
  • Seven-year time frame to finish the program. Average time to completion is two to three years for the History, Mathematics and Science options.
  • 36 credits needed to complete the History, Mathematics and Science options
  • 60 credits needed to complete the Clinical Mental Health Counseling option
  • Program will not satisfy certification standards to teach at the elementary/secondary levels for the State of Nebraska
  • Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is not currently CACREP accredited

4 Year Course Rotation

Program Requirements

  • Earned baccalaureate degree: 39 - 42 hours plus 12 credits of education if non-certified
  • Students will be required to attend an interview with the Counseling Department either on the campus of Chadron State College or via web options, such as Vidyo, prior to the first semester of attendance. Students successfully passing the interview will be required to attend a face-to-face orientation with the Counseling Department at either the Chadron State College location or the North Platte, Nebraska, satellite office.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling option is offered in a partially online format. Students can expect to complete two courses on the campus of Chadron State College or its satellite office in North Platte, Nebraska.

4 Year Course Rotation

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program prepares students to work professionally in various public and private counseling agencies. In Nebraska, as well as most states, persons must be licensed by the state to engage in counseling or therapy. A teaching degree is not required for admittance into the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.

  • Earned baccalaureate degree

History

The History option is offered in an online format and a partially online format.

4 Year Course Rotation

This concentration is customized to meet the educational and professional needs of the students who want advanced knowledge in history in order to continue their professional goal of a doctorate degree, career advancement or professional development. This degree will deliver the 18 content hours needed to teach at the community college level in most states.

Mathematics

The Mathematics option is offered in an online format.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The MBA is designed for supervisory and mid-level managers. The program will add to the body of knowledge in business management, marketing, finance, accounting, economics and informational management systems. This program is offered entirely or partially online in an eight-week format—two eight-week sessions per semester.

MBA Quick Facts

  • 36 credit hour program
  • Generalist curriculum (No areas of concentration)
  • Classes offered in eight-week formats
  • Nine hours within a sixteen-week semester or six hours within an eight-week session is considered full-time for the MBA program
  • No GMAT required for admission to the program
  • Seven-year time frame to finish the program. Average time to completion is two to three years.
  • Accredited by Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs

Master of Education (MEd)

There is one option within the Master of Education degree. This option has various areas of specialization. All students accepted into the MEd program must have a bachelor’s degree in education from a regionally-accredited college or university or have completed an alternative teaching certification program which included student teaching as documented on a college/university transcript.

Curriculum and Instruction

The Curriculum and Instruction program is offered in both fully online and partially online formats.

Students in the partially online programs can expect to complete courses on the campus of Chadron State College.

These programs are intended to provide the student with advanced knowledge in curriculum, research, assessment, administration, supervision and counseling.

MEd Quick Facts

  • Classes offered in 16-week semester formats
  • Nine hours per semester is considered full-time for the ME program
  • Seven-year time frame to finish the program. Average time to completion is two to three years.
  • Hours needed to complete the program vary between 36 and 51 hours
  • School Counseling program is not CACREP accredited
  • Those who already possess an ME or the Chadron State College equivalent of an ME should apply using the Post Graduate Degree application as they will be adding an endorsement rather than receiving an additional degree.

Master of Science in Organizational Management (MSOM)

A cooperative program between Chadron State College, Wayne State College and Peru State College within the Nebraska State College System, this degree is designed to provide knowledge and skills in management and organizational structures to enable the student to more effectively progress to management positions with corporate, government or not-for-profit settings. There are three areas of option offered within this program:

  • Human Services - offered in an online format.
  • Natural Resources - offered in a partially online format. Students can expect to complete some courses on the campus of Chadron State College.
  • Sports Management - offered in an online format.

MSOM Quick Facts

  • 36 credit hour program
  • Classes offered in eight week and 16-week semester formats
  • Nine hours per semester is considered full-time for the MSOM program
  • No GMAT or GRE required for admission to the program
  • Seven-year time frame to finish the program. Average time to completion is two to three years.
  • The MSOM - Human Services option is not an advanced degree for those in the areas of social work, counseling or other jobs in the helping professions.
  • The MSOM - Sports Management option will not certify students to teach/coach in the elementary/secondary school systems.

All students wishing to pursue a degree program are required to provide one official transcript from the college/university which awarded the bachelor's degree, as well as any other transcript received after the awarding of the bachelor's degree, even if no credit was earned at the institution, prior to enrollment. Students may not omit any part of their previous college records, whether part-time or full-time, with or without degree objectives, whether or not credit has been granted, or whether or not they desire to transfer credit. Chadron State reserves the right to use the National Student Clearinghouse and/or the National Student Loan Data System to verify students have accurately disclosed their academic history. Failure to disclose a complete collegiate record may result in denial of admission and/or federal financial aid or dismissal from Chadron State College.
