The Reta King Library has wireless laptops available for loan to currently–enrolled CSC students and currently–employed CSC faculty and staff. The borrower must sign the User Agreement/Financial Liability Wireless Laptops Reta King Library document each semester and adhere to the terms outlined in this Wireless Laptops Rules & Tip Sheet document.

  • A user of the wireless laptop must adhere to the CSC Acceptable Use Policy, Responsible Network Use Policy, and Copyright Policies available at Anyone violating these policies will be expected to surrender the wireless laptop to a Library staff member immediately and his/her wireless laptop borrowing privileges will be suspended immediately for the duration of the semester.
  • No one besides the borrower is allowed to use the wireless laptop while it is checked out. The laptop is not to be left unattended. If you need to leave the laptop unattended, the circulation desk worker will hold the laptop for you for a short period of time. Please retrieve it as soon as possible. If a laptop is left unattended and is retrieved by a staff member, laptop borrowing privileges will be suspended for the remainder of the semester.

Tip Sheet for Wireless Laptop Use at the Reta E. King Library

Wireless Signal

On the lower-right corner of the desktop is an indicator for the strength of the wireless signal. Most areas of the library have access to the network. However, the true "hotspot locations" are on the east side of 1 st and 2 nd floor, the center area of 2 nd floor, Room 112 (the Curriculum Room), and Classrooms 106, and 109. Please be aware that a wireless connection signal can fluctuate from good to none depending on your location and the number of other laptops connecting to the network. PLEASE SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN!

Battery Life

On the lower-right corner of the desktop is an indicator for battery strength. It is important to SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN! If the battery runs low, patrons should save their work and return the laptop to the circulation desk. Another laptop can then be checked out (pending availability).

Save a Document

Documents are routinely erased from the laptop's hard drive. Save your work often using one of the following options:

Option 1: E-mail the document to yourself
Save your document as an attachment and send the file to your MyCSC or other E-mail address.
Option 2: Save the file on a USB Flash Drive ( Jump Drive ) which the borrower provides.
Option 3: Save the document to your Z-drive.

It is always a good idea to save your work to more than one location. If you backup your backup, then you will never lose your work.

Print a Document

You must save your work and log onto one of the library or campus lab computers in order to print.

Food and Drink

It is advisable to keep all food and drink away from the wireless laptop. The borrower will be financially liable for any and all damage to the wireless laptop.

For Help

The librarian at the reference desk can answer many of the questions that will arise and will report hardware problems to the Department of Information Technology as necessary.
