New Student Orientation 2017: Event Schedule

All times/session listed below are MST and subject to change, other than Move-In/Check-In on Thursday, August 17. Please watch for the Pre-Orientation Guide, mailed to you mid-summer, which will include the NSO event schedule. A detailed event agenda will be provided at check-in. **If you are a FALL SPORT ATHLETE you will receive separate communication about the sessions you will attend**


8:00 a.m. - Noon | Residence Hall Move-In
Please check-in at your residence hall any time between 8 a.m. and noon, MST (please do not arrive prior to 8 a.m.) See the campus map for residence hall locations. Please arrive at the parking lot adjacent to your residence hall. NSO staff will direct you where to park to maintain traffic flow and assist you with move in, so this part will be quick and easy.

8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | New Student Orientation Check-In | Student Center
Following residence hall move-in/check-in, please proceed to the NORTH side of the Student Center (see the campus map) to check-in for New Student Orientation. It is imperative you have picked up your name tags and event materials to participate in the afternoon programming and evening meal.

9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | One-Stop Shop | Student Center

  • Pick up your Student ID (you must have your ID before Friday afternoon)
  • Request official major/degree program changes
  • Make necessary course schedule changes with an academic advisor
  • Ask questions regarding financial aid and scholarships
  • Pick up your CSC Parking Permit
  • Meet with Student Health Services to submit paperwork & ask questions
  • Visit with VA/Military Services and/or ROTC

9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | Technology Services | Reta E. King Library
Get assistance with network log in, MyCSC and EagleMail

LUNCH on your own

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. | Transitional Studies Session | Memorial Hall
This session is REQUIRED for students in the Transitional Studies Program (TSP). Students asked to attend this session will receive an additional flier in their NSO materials with further details.

2:00 - 3:00 p.m. | Get to know your campus! | Dean's Green
Meet up with your Eagle Leader and other students in your degree program for activities to acquaint you with the important locations and traditions at CSC.

2:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Presidential Reception | Sandoz Center
Join CSC's President, members of his cabinet and other CSC staff for light refreshments at the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. Explore the exhibits, cool off and enjoy conversation with fellow parents. Following the reception, parents and guests will join their student on the Dean's Green.

3:00 - 4:00 | Flying with Tradition & Following your Frontier | Dean's Green
Discover your part in the history and tradition of Chadron State College. You and your new classmates will connect to learn about CSC traditions and the history that binds us together.

4:00 - 4:30 p.m. | Eagle Welcome and Class of 2021 Class Photo | Dean's Green
CSC's President, Dr. Randy Rhine, will officially welcome you to the CSC class of 2021. Parents/guests, don't forget your cameras to capture the class photo.

4:30 - 6:00 p.m. | Welcome Picnic | Tent
Join your classmates and their families for a barbeque and celebrate your first day as an Eagle.

6:00 - 9:00 p.m. | Bands on Bordeaux: the Encore! | Downtown Chadron
This event is co-sponsored by the Chadron Chamber of Commerce. Connect with Chadron community members while enjoying a street dance with live musical entertainment by Blue Street. Located on *Bordeaux Street between 1st and 2nd streets. There will be fun activities for all ages! Staff will be available to guide you to the event.


7:30 - 8:45 a.m. | Breakfast | Student Center Dining Room

9:00 - 10:15 a.m. | Eagle Expectations | Student Center Ballroom
This is a REQUIRED session. Learn what our expectations of you are now that you are an Eagle. Dr. David Nesheim, Director of Assessment and former CSC professor, will give you the inside knowledge to what it takes to be successful in the CSC classroom. Also, hear from current students in a panel session about their tips and tricks for a great first-year.

9:00 a.m. - Noon | Parent/Guest Sessions | Memorial Hall

It's a Team Effort: Help us give your student the best CSC experience
Lisa Stein, Director of Admissions & Deena Kennell, Director of Career and Academic Planning Services will discuss the important role you play in helping us support your student during their first year at CSC.

Academics: The True Story about the Eagle Classroom
The Academic Deans will explain the expectations of the Eagle Classroom and discuss the challenges your student may face in the collegiate academic environment. This session will help prepare you to empower your student as they find their academic independence.

Parents of College Students: Panel Discussion
Hear from other parents of college students as they share tips, tricks and stories about their own experiences having college students.

10:30 - 11:45 a.m. | Student Academic Session | Various Locations
Meet with all the faculty from your Academic Department and the other students in your chosen degree field.

Noon - 2:00 p.m. | Lunch and Information Fair | Student Center

1:00 - 4:00 p.m. | Where's my Classroom? Campus Tours | Student Center
Do you still have questions about where your classes are? We can help. Visit the main Check-In desk in the Student Center to sign-up before noon. You must come prepared with a copy of your course schedule.


2:00 - 3:00 p.m.| Parents of Education Students | Old Admin 136
If your student is an Education major, please join the Education faculty in a question/answer session. Degree program requirements will be covered including student teaching, PRAXIS testing, additional costs and what your student should expect as an Education major

2:00 - 4:00 p.m. | International Student Orientation | Old Admin 109
New international students ONLY. Attendance is required.

2:00 - 4:00 | Open House: Student Services
Please utilize this time to meet with the various Student Services personnel in their office locations. This is your LAST CHANCE to take care of any remaining business or ask questions, as offices are not open over the weekend.

5:00 p.m. to Dark | Backyard Bash! Barbeque | Tent
Enjoy a meal with the rest of our CSC family, games and fun in CSC's backyard.

Student meal plans begin Saturday, August 19. Students must present their Student ID/EagleCard and meals will be deducted from their chosen meal plan. Please have your Student ID/EagleCard before FRIDAY at 4:00 p.m. so you may utilize your meal plan over the weekend.
