Herbarium – the herbarium contains close to 60,000 specimens, the vast majority vascular plants, including many selected from student collections made over the last forty years, most of which are not duplicated elsewhere. CSCN is the official acronym for our herbarium that serves as a unique identifier that is used when citing specimens. The herbarium contains the results of over fifty years of Dr. Ron Weedon’s collecting, and has been expanded through exchanges with other regional institutions including the Rocky Mountain Herbarium (RM), Bessey Herbarium of the University of Nebraska (NEB), and the McGregor Herbarium (KANU), among others. Over 25 percent of our herbarium has been digitized, with specimen data entered into an electronic database.
Library – the High Plains Herbarium contains the botanical library of Dr. Weedon, in excess of 5,000 volumes of technical and broad interest, including flora manuals from throughout North America, and volumes on gardening, medicinal plants, plant exploration, and ethnobotany. The private libraries of Claude Barr and George Morgan are grouped in special collections.
