CSC Planetarium

The CSC Planetarium, located on the lower floor of the Math & Science Building, serves the college and western Nebraska with educational programs in astronomy. The planetarium is open daily by appointment, and can service groups of 5-40 people. If your group is larger, we can provide multiple shows for your audience.

Public Programs

Public programs are generally offered during the CSC Academic year. Tickets must be purchased from the CSC Conferencing Office in advance of the show unless otherwise stated. All planetarium shows are presented by CSC students and/or faculty.

  • Planetarium Night - Seasonal Sky is a live 45 minute planetarium presentation, followed by discussion. This show presents basic naked-eye astronomy covering seasonal constellations and current astronomical events. This show is presented at a level appropriate for all ages. Children are always welcome; however they must be accompanied by an adult. Planetarium shows may be challenging for children under the age of 3 or 4 unless they are comfortable sitting in the dark.
  • Star Party - Free Event is a specially scheduled event that offers telescope viewing sessions using the department’s telescopes. You may bring your own telescope and set up with us. Star parties take place in the south parking lot of the Math & Science Building. Viewing sessions are run by CSC students and/or faculty. Star parties are subject to cancelation without notice due to bad weather or cloud cover.

School Programs

The CSC Planetarium offers astronomy programs for all grades and age groups from preschool through college level. Public, private and homeschooling groups are welcome. School programs are specially scheduled events and are limited by the availability of our personnel to present them. Shows are presented by CSC students, and are given at a level appropriate to the audience.

Scout Programs

In spring 2015, we plan to introduce a new astronomy program aimed to help scouts satisfy requirements for badges and pins by learning about the night sky. Scout programs will be special scheduled events coordinated by troop leaders and planetarium staff.

The CSC Department of Physical and Life Sciences reserves the right to determine the content and scope of these presentations. Fees and donations will be used to help fund planetarium renovation and to allow us to develop new programs.
