Financial aid is any type of funding used to help pay for school. This can include scholarships, grants, student loans and Work Study.
To be considered for the different types of federal funds Chadron State College offers you must complete the FAFSA, using Chadron State College school code of 002539. Your federal application for student aid will be sent to Chadron State College electronically. You will need to be checking your MyCSC To-Do list in the event that the START Office needs additional documentation from you.
Students and parents of dependent students are required to create a FSA ID in order to sign the application electronically. There is a link to create the FSA ID on the FAFSA sign-in page, or you may visit the Federal Student Aid website.
About 1/3 of financial aid applications are selected for verification. If you are selected, the documentation the START Office needs in order to process your federal aid will be listed on your MyCSC To-Do list.
The federal government mandates what constitutes an independent or dependent student. A set of questions is asked in the FAFSA to determine this status.
For more information about these questions, see the following link:
If you feel you or your family have special circumstances that may affect your need for federal financial aid, you may complete the Special Circumstances Request Form and submit this to the START Office. Your request will be reviewed, and you will be notified within 7-10 days if we need additional information. If we do not need additional information and your request is accepted, we will proceed with the request.
Examples of special circumstances include but are not limited to:
Please remember that we have a very good reason for making any adjustments, and in order to do this supporting documentation is necessary. Once a decision is made, it cannot be appealed to the United States Department of Education.
