- What are correspondence courses?
- For students who possess the ability and motivation to work without instructional supervision or contact, Chadron State offers about 50 self-study correspondence courses. Completing a prescribed set of readings, study materials, assignments and exams, students may earn CSC credit without traditional classroom attendance. CSC correspondence courses allow students the option to enroll in semester-based (for students utilizing federal financial aid) or year-long formats (for students needing additional time flexibility). Correspondence courses are completely self-study following written instructions with no classroom time or faculty instruction, interaction or supervision. Most CSC correspondence courses are offered in an Internet-based format. Students must have access to a computer and an Internet connection. Some courses utilize the more traditional paper and mail format.
- Exams are proctored and password-protected.

Financial Aid
Financial Aid Website • Phone: 308-432-6230 • E-mail Financial Aid • Office: START Office, Crites Hall Lobby
- How do I apply for financial aid?
- You can apply by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Before you fill out the FAFSA, you and one parent will need to apply for a personal identification number (PIN). The PIN acts as your electronic signatures on the FAFSA and the Master Promissory Note. To apply for a PIN, visit www.pin.gov.
- How often do I apply for financial aid?
- The FAFSA is valid for one year (fall, spring and summer), so it is necessary to reapply each year prior to June 1. As soon as you complete your federal tax returns, complete your FAFSA.
- How will I know when my FAFSA is processed?
- Once your FAFSA is processed, you will receive either an e-mail directing you to an electronic Student Aid Report (SAR) or a SAR will be mailed to you from the Central Processing System. If Chadron State College is a school listed on your FAFSA, we will receive your FAFSA information electronically and this information will be available on your MyCSC Financial Aid account.
- What if I need to make correction to the information provided on my FAFSA?
- Please contact the Financial Aid office and we will work with you to correct the information electronically.
- What if my family’s financial circumstances have changed since I filed the FAFSA?
- The Financial Aid office has a separate application to re-evaluate a family’s financial situation if there is a decrease in income due to loss of employment, loss of untaxed income, or if your family paid unusually high medical/dental expenses during the year for which tax information is being reported on the FAFSA. Please complete the Special Circumstances Request Form.
- Should I include my stepparents’ income on the FAFSA?
- If the parent for which your are reporting income on the FAFSA is remarried, it is necessary to report stepparent income as well.
- What happens if I drop a class after the semester begins?
- If you drop a class prior to the end of the 100% refund period (census date), your financial aid package will be reviewed at the current enrollment level. This review may result in a change in your financial aid and scholarship eligibility. If you drop a class after the 100% refund period but continue to be enrolled at least half-time, your current financial aid package will not be revised. Please be aware, however, dropping to less than full-time after the census date will impact your future financial aid eligibility based on our Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.
- What happens if I withdraw from all of my classes after the semester begins?
- If you withdraw completely from any semester, our office must calculate whether any of the financial aid you received prior to withdrawal must now be repaid. It is possible that this calculation will result in a decrease in aid already disbursed, thus causing an amount to be owed back to the Business office. In addition, once you drop to less than half-time status, your federal loans enter their grace period before repayment. Withdrawing from all classes could jeopardize scholarship renewal and could possibly jeopardize your standing in relation to our Satisfactory Academic Progress policy.
- How do I find an Alternative Student Loan?
- Perform a web search for an “alternative student loan lender.” A search for “alternative student loans” will give you choices and interest rates to compare.
- How do I find my “To-Do List?”
- Log in to MyCSC with your NUID and password (if you have not received information on the steps to get your password, contact helpdesk@csc.edu or call 308-432-6311). Click on “Student Center,” then “To-Do List” to the right of the Financial Aid link. Then click on “Details” to view the necessary items needed to complete your Financial Aid file.
- When will I receive my financial aid?
- If you were not selected for verification, your financial aid should be packaged in about two weeks, depending on volume.
- If you were selected for verification, your financial aid can take up to six weeks for the verification process, depending on volume.
- What is Chadron State College’s school code?
- 002593
- I need to send the Financial Aid office a fax.
- Send to 308-432-6474.
- How can I check to see if I have missing information?
- Check your “To-Do List” on MyCSC several times per week.
- What is the deadline to apply for federal financial aid?
- Our priority deadline is June 1. We need your application and all requested documents prior to June 1.
- If I do not have my document complete by the June 1 priority deadline am I still eligible for financial aid?
- Yes, however, some aid is first-come, first-serve. You may not receive supplemental grant, work study and Perkins Loans. Also, your aid may not be processed by the time school starts.
