Wired access remains the primary method for connecting to the campus network and Internet. Wireless is a complement to the wired network. Although wireless technology is advancing, individuals who are in need of network access for important functions are advised to use a wired connection for a more reliable and responsive connection. It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure that wireless laptops are protected by ensuring operating systems, antivirus, and antispyware are current.
The Private wireless network provides access to services similar to those in CSC computer labs and offices such as printers and the network storage z-drive as well as Internet access. Use of the Windows username and password is required. The network is available to CSC–owned laptops and CSC laptops for checkout and utilizes the administrative Internet connection. All laptops must be registered with the Department of Information Technology.
The Public wireless network provides access to services similar to those in the residence halls such as CSC public servers (MyCSC) as well as Internet access. A username and password is required. The network is available to Student and Guest laptops and utilizes the residence hall Internet connection. All laptops must be registered with the Department of Information Technology.
Wireless locations are indicated on the Hot Spot page.
Installation of wireless access points not approved and installed by CSC Information Technology is prohibited and in violation of the CSC Responsible Network Use Policy.
Upon purchase, CSC–owned laptops are registered on the Private wireless network by IT personnel.
Wireless access is available to guests scheduled through CSC Departments. These laptops are registered on the Public wireless network. If there is a need for access to internal servers they will be registered on the Private wireless network provided the Operating System is current and anti-virus and anti-spyware are installed and current. Individuals are required to request access from the Department of Information Technology a minimum of 5 working days in advance of a scheduled event which requires use of the wireless laptop. The laptop is registered for the duration of the guest's visit as specified by the CSC Department Director/Chair requesting the access.
Wireless access is available to CSC students and CSC employees from non-CSC owned personal laptops. These laptops are registered on the Public wireless network.
